Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] In the widest range of works that in recent years have renewed the historiography on the Resistance, this work, based on the documentation preserved at the National Archives of London, analyzes the relations between the British Special Operations Executive and the partisans in northern Italy, inserting the Italian conflict in the broader framework of the international relations of the Second World War. What is the contribution that the study of British sources offers to historiography on the Resistance? First of all, opening interesting perspectives of investigation: from the analysis of the progressive politicization of the guerrilla to the study of everyday diplomacy between partisans and British Liaison Officers. Secondly, confirming some interpretations but problematizing others, it makes it possible to advance some hypotheses on the reasons why the British did not fully support the partisan war, identifying them in matters of both internal character to the Italian political dynamics and international elements.
