Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The son (Glénat, 2009) is a graphic novel whose subject was written by Mario Torrecillas and drawn by Tyto Alba. In her, the story of Matías is told, a young boxer who lives badly in postwar times and dedicates part of his life to the search of his mother, interned in a mental hospital. The art of flying (Edicions de Ponent, 2009) is a graphic novel that emerged from the collaboration between screenwriter Antonio Altarriba and cartoonist Kim. In it, the chronicle of a whole generation is made through the feelings of an ordinary man whose existence is determined by the unstoppable course of history. Both texts develop, through the innovative resources of the genre to which they belong, the theme of the tremendous consequences of the postwar period, reflecting at the same time the maturity of the Spanish comic strip and recognizing a definite literary dignity. In both novels, in addition, the drawing and texts are swaying savagely, through a style that seems to call to memory the literary techniques of Tremendismo of the forties of the last century, which contributes to making them the right portrait of An entire era. The purpose of this work is to analyze the narrative strategies that both texts use when analyzing a key issue of the recent Spanish past.
