Abstract
The tradition of votive offerings began as a grateful claim of a divine power irruption in human history. However, the bipolar diversity laying half way between God's heaven and the terrestrial world is perceived as the source of a dialogue through which the two extremes look for each other. The bond that is established is an aspirations to a Divine capable of being a companion full of mercy for the sufferer. Emerged from the frame of the flowering of medieval Christianity, the pattern of votive paintings is enhanced in the second post-Tridentine and Baroque wave, flowing as an underneath river until it reaches the religious metamorphosis of our contemporaneity.
