La Rappresentazione per Enrico V

[Autom. eng. transl.] The volume is part of a research begun some years ago on the translation activity of Roberto Sanesi (1930-2001), poet, painter, Anglicist, essayist and extraordinarily prolific translator. The curatorship dedicated to the translations and/or adaptations of the Shakespearean theatrical production continues and deepens, which in March 2019 had merged into a volume that proposes the unpublished version of the translation of Pericle prince of Tyre, of which Sanesi had already published the adaptation in occasion of the staging at the Teatro Arsenale in Milan in 1997. This investigation had allowed me to identify the presence of a precious material, also consisting of numerous unpublished manuscripts and typescripts, preserved in the Sanesi Fund of the Manuscript Center of the University of Pavia , including the complete translation of Henry V. This material bears witness not only to the author's continuous search for a translation poetics in line with the original, but also to his awareness of how much the act of translation involves a mutation of the genre itself of its object: from written drama , scripted for staging. This perspective is particularly useful when the subject in question is Shakespearean dramatic work. This material therefore highlights the particular interest that Sanesi reserved not only for the literary aspect of the text, but also for its theatrical value: Sanesi worked in close contact with theater directors and set designers, contributing to the staging process. He was himself the author, as a painter, of drawings intended for the stage. Few are already deposited in the Manuscript Fund of Pavia and many, waiting to be inventoried, could be examined and catalogued, subject to authorization by the heirs, as part of the project itself. Dell'Enrico V Sanesi has provided, as for the Pericles, both the adaptation (published by Guanda in 1967 in collaboration with other authors, Roberto Pallavicini and Virginio Puecher, with the title of The Representation for Enrico Quinto) and the translation, as well to numerous drawings. The translation is precisely an unpublished text that I found in typescript at the Sanesi Fund of the University of Pavia.
