Abstract
The remarkable increase in life expectancy and the ongoing changes in family structures highlight the role of grandparents as an essential support resource for the upbringing and care of grandchildren. At the same time, the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren can impact the health of both, playing a particularly significant role in a country like Italy, which has a high percentage of people over the age of 65. This study presents the initial findings of a pilot survey funded by the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, allowing us to analyze the quality of life of grandparents in relation to grandchild care in the province of Bolzano. This region is characterized by the coexistence of three linguistic groups and some of the highest levels of well-being and quality of life in the country.
