Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] On 21 April 2021, the European Commission presented a proposal for a regulation intended to introduce common legislation on the development, placing on the market and use of artificial intelligence systems in the Union. The Proposal is unique on the international scene and aims to define a legal framework that allows the development of safe, reliable and ethical artificial intelligence. Considering that the future regulation will apply to both the private and public sectors, this contribution aims to illustrate the main characteristics of the Proposal, paying particular attention to the rules envisaged for the so-called high-risk AI systems.
