Abstract

Within the yearly Italian Report on Migrations (2001’s edition) realised by the ISMU Foundation – the main Italian scientific institution on migrations and interethnic cohabitation – this chapter focuses the attention on the question of programming the flow of immigration for work motives. After providing a picture of the European trends and perspectives, it describes the needs of the Italian firms, thanks to the results of the Unioncamere-Excelsior monitoring system. Finally, it develops some concluding remarks and suggestions on labour migrations management, starting from an assessment of the critical points of the Italian situation. The contribution is also available in the English version (see: “Programming flows for purposes of work”, The Seventh Italian Report on Migrations)
