Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] According to a business perspective, in the managerial practice the "digital" is attributable as the fusion and enhancement of ICT resources with other corporate resources.2 It should be noted that "digital" and ICT are not synonymous, being the concept of digital characterized by a broader meaning. Digital has wider reach than the traditional corporate definition of IT as it also includes technologies beyond the organization's control, such as, for example, social media, smart (IoT) and wearable devices (Mahapatra, 2016) . According to Forrester, the "digital" function relates to everything that is digital in business, at a strategic level (conception and introduction of a digital strategy of corporate horizon), transformative (the design of the digital experience user, customer, employee or partner that both) and operational (governance and use of web, social media, analytics and development of digital or mobile app). As a result of this extension of the concept, the organizational function that deals with planning, managing and monitoring the digital activities of a company often goes beyond the traditional organizational boundaries of the IT function. As argued in previous chapters, a digital transformation process can involve different business areas or functions. It is good to immediately point out that there is no single and unequivocal organizational function that can be called "digital". This is because from a strategic-organizational point of view the digital transformation can follow different evolutionary paths that are highly specific from company to company.
