Starting from many changes that have affected the family both in the long term and following the pandemic event, the risks and relative poverty are analyzed through a relational reading capable of understanding those constituent dimensions of being a family. This paper aims to explore and define the components of the relational family poverty. What determines the poverty of family relationships? And why is the material dimension not sufficient to define them? In order to answer these questions, the main transformations of Italian families are presented in their double structural and cultural or symbolic conformation. Finally, it is noted in what terms relational poverty contributes to determining new distinctions between families, in terms of possibility and capacity to cope with critical events.
