[Autom. eng. transl.] The contribution reconstructs, first of all, the gradual evolution of the social dimension within the European integration process. Secondly, with reference to the current legal framework of primary law, it focuses first on the relevant provisions of the TEU and of the Charter of fundamental rights, to then illustrate - on the basis of the relevant provisions of the TFEU - the objectives and instruments of the social policy of the 'Union; specific insights are devoted to the role of the social partners and the profile of equality between men and women. Finally, the tools available to the Union for the pursuit of a high level of employment are analyzed.
