Abstract

The paper is a contribution to the hotly debated 'Justinianic plague'. It is divided in two parts. The first part is a general overview of the ancient historiography and the current debate. The second part is focused on the controversial issue 'Justinianic plague and the end of antiquity' (or 'decline and fall of Rome') and it aims to draw attention to the first monograph on the 'great plague' under Justinian by V. Seibel.
