Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The "ethnic-political" theme enjoyed a certain fortune in the Roman coin figurative repertoire, starting from the beginning of the first century BC. C. Analyzing some common expressive categories (landscape elements; attitudes and gestures; clothing, headgear and footwear; particular attributes: things, animals, vegetables), the essay intends to identify the elements that in Roman coin iconography defined the peripheral reality of the Empire as a whole and in the individual compositional units. The aim of the research is also to identify the possible contribution offered by local coinage to the formation of this figurative repertoire.
