Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The participation of parents in the sphere of minor protection is a complex issue both in its theoretical-methodological interpretation and in its operational declination. Faced with the regulatory recognition of the responsibility of parents to educate their children, decide in their interest and provide for their development (UN Convention, 1989), it is important to ask how to guarantee the exercise of these rights and duties in situations in which that a child or boy must be temporarily removed from his family for his protection. In this article, after a theoretical introduction on the concept of participation and a brief excursus on research investigating the issue of parental participation in child protection, the results of a research that studied the participation of parents in the life of their children removed and placed in three host communities. The results of the research account for the reception and permanence practices of minors in communities that provide for the participation of parents in compliance with the framework given by the judicial authority. The difficulties and benefits of such working practices and the implications for the practice are also highlighted.
