Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] On May 27th we remember the centenary of the birth of Lorenzo Milani, priest and teacher, who dedicated his life to education to give the word to the least. Much has been said and written about the prior of Barbiana, not always on purpose, and much will be said and written this year. Some try to deploy the prior of Barbiana in defense of their own ideas, others present him as the cause of the ills of the Italian school, still others as an inimitable model. Not everyone reads his writings, studies his experience and allows themselves to be provoked by his testimony. Rereading the writings of Don Lorenzo Milani still represents, today, a "formative" experience for the reader, who, stimulated by the words of the Prior of Barbiana, sometimes provocative and paradoxical, but never banal, is invited to question himself in depth without following the paths of the obvious, in search of the truth. A careful reading can allow us to enter into what Don Lorenzo Milani himself defined as the "pedagogical secret of Barbiana".
