Abstract
This article shows that love is an attestation (similar to aesthetic admiration) of the preciousness of the other, is a will of good (as a desire y amor amicitiae), sometimes to the point of ecstasy, gift and communion, and perfects the subject’s action. It then discusses the nature of the virtues (e.g. as self-possession, as Nietzsche also says), the ‘end’ of virtuous conduct and the fact that it is perfective. The connection between love (for oneself or for others) and the exercise of virtue (virtuous actions are virtuous declinations of love) and the relationship between love and duty are then explained.
