[Autom. eng. transl.] The theme of the monarchy in the Herodoteo Tripolitico (III, 82) presents various reasons of interest, from the terminology used (mounarchie / mounarchos, tyrannis / tyrannos) to the themes of excellence, secrecy, efficiency. The arguments in favor of the monarchy also rely on the theory of the constitutional cycle (the monarchy is the outcome of the degenerative process that involves oligarchies and democracies) and of fidelity to the constitutional tradition (patrioi nomoi). We find here a series of significant anticipations of themes that will be fully affirmed in the fourth century and on whose presence already in Herodotus it is appropriate to reflect.
