Abstract
Sacre rappresentazioni (sacred plays) were invented in fifteenth century Florence to educate children to become good Christian and citizens. This essay analyzes some texts of the early sixteenth century to show how this dramatic genre was revived after the return of the Medici family in 1512 for propagandistic purposes, using the then new dramaturgical expedient of the mise en âbime to render more effective the political and educative message that they had to transmit to Florentine people
