Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The article studies the structure and symbolic functions of the altar of the dead in the Janal Pixan ceremonies in contemporary Mayan society. Based on a field work carried out in Valladolidad, Yucatán, and the surrounding communities in 2009, I propose to analyze the symbolic significance of space, time and the distribution of objects in the organization of the altar for the dead, carried out on the occasion of the feast of the Saints and Faithful Departed. Lotman's approach to studying culture allows us to understand the functioning of ritual within the contemporary Mayan cultural system.
