Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Lombardy is one of the Italian regions where PDO and PGI products have become, over time, a fundamental element for the support and development of the local primary sector. Altogether it owns 76 products with a protected designation of origin and protected geographical indication, of which, as far as food is concerned, 20 DOP (13 are exclusively in the Lombardy region) and 14 Igp (6 can only be produced in Lombardy). Of the national total of denomination products recognized by the European Commission in 2016, excluding wines, it held 12% of Dop and 11.6% of Igp. Given the dairy vocation of the Region, 14 PDOs are cheeses and to them are added 3 types of processed meat, 2 extra virgin olive oils and Varese honey.
