Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The English language today is a concept of arduous definition, English having become 'language of the world'. The name 'English' has become an umbrella term used to refer generally to the use of the language in different situations. English is accused of being a hegemonic language devouring other languages, responsible for the impoverishment of linguistic diversity in the world. Despite this, English lingua franca also acts as a bridge linking different peoples and cultures.
