Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Starting from the eidetic analysis of the structures of the will, Ricoeur arrives at a "purely human freedom". This, in comparison with the problem of the possibility of evil, becomes a "fallible freedom". In the Symbolique du mal (1960) the exegesis of the forms of concrete confession of evil leads to the paradoxical concept of "slave freedom": man is characterized by a free will but who has already chosen evil. However, in Ricoeur the radical nature of evil cannot erase the original goodness of man. Precisely by virtue of this asymmetry he identifies starting from the 1960s a path of liberation of "slave freedom" which opens up the field of "philosophy of religion". It is possible to restore freedom to itself through a regeneration in the light of "hope". This liberation is expressed in various areas: 1) liberation from the ineluctable evil of suffering in wisdom; 2) liberation from any totalitarianism in the criticism of any undue political or religious synthesis; 3) liberation from the slavery of the past in forgiveness.
