Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] DEDIPAC (Determinants of Diet and Physical Activity) is a multidisciplinary scientific consortium (Joint Program Initiative) which brings together experts from 46 research centers in 12 European countries. The goal of the consortium is to understand and map the determinants of diet, physical activity and sedentary behavior, and the translation of this knowledge into effective health promotion interventions. Among the partners of the consortium, the search for the determinants of physical activity is coordinated by the Italian network LISTANet (Life Style Advancement Network) and is currently carried out through a review of the scientific literature. Methods: The systematic literature search was conducted on MEDLINE, ISI Web of Knowledge, SCOPUS and SPORTDiscus, and considered only studies published in English in the period between January 2004 and March 2014. Only systematic reviews of the literature or meta-analyzes which: i) had physical activity, exercise, or sporting activity as their primary result; ii) analyze the association between any variable that could influence the primary outcome and the primary outcome itself. Results: 10,953 studies emerged from systematic research. Following the elimination of duplicates, 10,314 studies were analyzed for inclusion according to the inclusion criteria. From the reading of the title, the abstract and the complete text, 268 studies were considered eligible for review and currently the extraction of data useful for qualitative and quantitative analysis is underway. Conclusions: The multidisciplinary and intersectoral cut of our umbrella review of the literature will allow a comprehensive mapping of individual and environmental determinants of physical activity in Europe. The analysis by age, gender, and type of physical activity will allow us to understand which are the determinants that influence the active lifestyle of the most vulnerable groups.
