Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Starting from the critical reconstruction of the development model established in the last twenty years, the book explores the cultural and social origins of the current crisis. The theme is tackled starting from a question that is usually removed: why, after a long period of growth, do Western countries find themselves indebted, aged, unequal and depressed? Beyond the financial aspects, the crisis marks the end of a certain model of capitalism, the techno-nihilistic capitalism. However difficult, difficult and risky, the crisis is also an opportunity. The problem is not solved simply through technical interventions, but returning to wonder what growth is. This is possible, however, on the condition of questioning the imaginary of freedom that has emerged in Western countries, imprisoned in a radically individualistic conception. Starting from here, the relationship between economy and society can begin to decline differently, overcoming a consumption-based economy to enter a value-based economy.
