[Autom. eng. transl.] The consideration of social and environmental aspects in corporate governance systems is increasingly recognized as a distinctive element for companies that intend to integrate sustainability into their business model. This is especially true today for industrial groups and large companies, but it will soon be essential for small and medium-sized enterprises as well. Going into the governance and management of sustainability involves examining the set of bodies, rules and processes that allow a company to define, implement and monitor policies in favor of the natural environment and society. This volume intends to represent the state of the art of the debate around the integration of sustainability in corporate governance systems, contextualizing the discussion with respect to the broader theme of defining and implementing sustainability strategies. The text focuses on the cross-links between purpose, forms of governance and management, sustainability skills, remuneration and dialogue with stakeholders. It thus offers the reader both a theoretical reference model, accompanied by the results of the research carried out in the context of the Sustainability Governance Observatory by Sustainability Makers and ALTIS-Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, as well as a collection of reflections and best practices developed by sustainability professionals. The intent is to foster a debate and confrontation with respect to questions that today do not have a universal answer, but to which it is necessary to approach without preconceived positions in order to understand the main choices at stake and their implications.
