Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] This work aims to study the collaboration networks within the scientific community of geographers, or within their relational space, as it appears in the eight years of reference (2000-2007) with regards to thanks and sicentific collaborations. The database was constructed by extracting the bibliometric information available in the ISI Web of Science (WoS) database about scientific publications in the eight Top Journals in the disciplinary sector, given the classification based on the Impact Factor of the same journals. In particular, through the tools of Social Network Analysis (SNA), two different networks have been generated, corresponding to two peculiar modes of collaboration: the visible network of coauthorships and the invisible network of acknowledgments. On the one hand, the relational properties of the networks and their main components were detected, through some network and node indicators; on the other, we tried to identify the topology, making use of the indicators of small world and small world Q. This analysis made it possible to identify similarities and differences in the formal and informal scientific collaboration methods, starting from different network architectures. Finally, on the basis of the data available on the publications of geographers, part of our sample, we tried to identify correlations between some of the node characteristics (each individual geographer) and their productivity.
