Abstract
Was Sulla a turning point in Roman history? Was he the principal factor in the crisis of the Roman Republic? After his death historians like Sisenna and Sallust agreed in giving a positive answer; on the contrary since the Augustan age the Roman historiography focused two other turning points, the Gracchi and Caesar, but modern research has confirmed that the interpretation of the post-Sullan generation was right.
