Abstract
In the course of the twentieth century, the Catholic Church in Italy has played an important role in the educational and social field through the institute of the oratori, i.e. the recreational centres for the youth which were instituted in the parishes in the early 1900’s, and
spread all across Italy. Especially in the diocese of Milan, the economic and “moral” capital of Italy, the oratori implanted themselves into the long tradition of the Schools of Christian Doctrine, receiving in addition the new demands of the national “oratorian” movement animated by the Salesian Society of don Giovanni Bosco. The article analyses in depth
the history of the oratori in the early nineteenth century Italy, through the journal «L’Eco
degli Oratori» and his role in moral and patriotic education of youth
