Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The article, after having illustrated a document issued by the Duchess of Milan on 12 February 1455, pauses to analyze the elements that guaranteed the quality of the paper and the symbolic function of the watermark, intended as a logo capable of certifying the origin and quality of the finished product, according to the indications coming from the jurisprudence and above all from the treaty of Bartolo da Sassoferrato "De insignis et armis", which included not only the noble heraldry, but also the signs capable of making explicit the high craft activities.
