Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Families with a severely psycho-physical handicapped person are families who have been put to the test, meaning that an event, such as the birth of a disabled child, or a serious accident / disease that causes disability permanent, prove the ability of family relationships to cope with the unfortunate event (Cigoli 199?). The need, that is, to "take care" of the person in difficulty and to establish good relations with the system of socio-educational and social-health services is crucial, not only for the disabled person, but for the overall well-being of life familiar. In particular, it is possible to affirm that these families have in common the significant presence of "a need for care" which is characterized by a minimum level of standardization of need, for a high need for personalized answers, for a "total" investment of the daily dimension . Only virtually, however, can this universe of families be considered homogeneous, in reality there are numerous elements that distinguish them and therefore contribute to determining the possibility and the quality of the answers that they are able to offer to their disabled children. In theory it is possible to identify some «differences markers» (Di Nicola, 1992) that allow to explain the differences present in these families, both in relation to the need and in relation to the possibility of finding adequate answers.
