Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Recent studies have clearly highlighted the family dimension of dementias, a set of degenerative diseases common in the elderly population. We can consider the family character of dementia in the senile age in a double sense: on the one hand, due to the incidence that the disease has not only on the elderly, but on the whole family nucleus; on the other hand, due to the direct involvement of the family in care and assistance tasks for their family member. These diseases, especially in the most invalidating forms, have a significant resonance on the family nucleus, both due to the considerable involvement in the process of care and assistance, and to the existential questions they arouse in family members. The article proposes some forms of educational support for families in this situation.
