Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] In section XI of the chapter "María Tecún" of Men of Corn, by Miguel Ángel Asturias, a cataract operation is related according to the method of traditional Mayan medicine. The article studies the rhetorical resources used by Asturias to give credibility to his narration, his scientific documentation and the use of the technique of "estrangement" to give an impression of reality.
