Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Exalted for its economic growth until recently, North Africa pays the bills for a development that has benefited only a small elite and has failed to reduce unemployment, poverty and inequality, nor to offer prospects to its large youth population. The crisis in North Africa has spread to various countries in the Middle East and now ranges from Tunisia to Libya, from Egypt to Jordan, from Bahrain to Yemen. As far as relations with the European Union and Italy are concerned, the critical elements do not only concern commercial trade but also the impact of political instability in North African and Middle Eastern countries on commodity and oil prices, as well as the risk of a strong recovery in migration flows.
