Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] More than a hundred years have passed since 13 May 1909 when 127 cyclists left for the first Giro d'Italia organized by the "Gazzetta dello Sport". 108 years in which Italy and the whole world have profoundly changed. And of those changes in the economy, in politics, in culture, in society and in costume, the pink race was a mirror and a witness. This is why telling the Giro also means telling the story of the last century of our country. Two scholars do this in this book who, starting from the most disparate sources, tell the protagonists of the epic of the Giro and the events of our country, from Binda to Girardengo, from Giolitti to Mussolini, from the mythical Coppi and Bartali to Eddy Merckx, from De Gasperi and Togliatti up to Pantani and Nibali, Berlusconi and Renzi.
