Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] On the occasion of the International Year of Biodiversity (2010) the "Sernagiotto" seed collection was presented: it is a veritable treasure trove of biodiversity containing the seeds of 1,100 species of cultivated and infesting plants. Prepared in the early 1900s, the collection is kept at the Faculty of Agriculture of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Piacenza. From a botanical point of view, it is a collection of seeds and fruits in a great variety of shapes, colors, surfaces and structures for dissemination. They range from microscopic seeds, such as tobacco and mint, to rather voluminous seeds, such as pumpkin, bean, castor and corn. This volume presents the photographic reproduction of the 11 centurias of seeds accompanied by the anastatic reproduction of the general index and of the libretto with the botanical and agronomic characteristics of each species.
