Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The essay examines the emergence of the bipolarity Gemeinschaft-Gesellschaft between the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries according to the theoretical parable that from Ferdinand Toennies reaches Max Weber. What emerges is a conceptual model strongly linked to the historical assumptions and theoretical premises that characterize the development of the West from the seventeenth to the twentieth century. This model appears a partially inadequate theoretical grid to read some aspects of Eastern social models which, as emerges (according to 'Western lenses') from the studies of Max Weber and Karl August Wittvogel, present different historical-conceptual paradigms.
