Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] St. John Henry Newman (1801- 1890) was one of the greatest thinkers in English-speaking culture. A man of the Church, an Anglican who converted to Catholicism in 1845, he left a solid intellectual legacy for theological and philosophical thought, a legacy formed around very strong literary skills and knowledge. This volume, consisting of an introductory essay and a new annotated translation of two Newmanian essays edited by the author, aims to concentrate on the literary aspects of Newman's work, aiming, on the one hand, to underline the theoretical farsightedness and the reciprocity between this and the theological thought of the Cardinal and, on the other, to define the features of his extraordinary influence on Victorian and modernist letters.
