Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The need to increase livestock production to support the growing demand for animal products worldwide has in recent years created a debate on the ecological impact of these productions. While the estimate data relating to the growth of the population and of food consumption in the world are reliable, some initial estimates of the contribution of animal husbandry to environmental pollution were inaccurate, as evidenced by subsequent and more accurate studies. This work synthetically analyzes the main aspects relating to the ecological impact of animal husbandry (Animal footprint), makes a particular estimate of the Italian ones and proposes solutions to reduce them.
