Abstract
Mario Pedini, born in Montichiari (Brescia) in 1918, is distinguished by an original political action aimed at the construction of the Euro-African Association, foreseen by the Treaties of Rome in 1957. The formula of the "double mandate", as deputy, from the 1958, to the Italian parliament and the parliamentary assembly of Strasbourg, it allows him to establish a network of relationships with many leaders of independent Africa, raising awareness of different and distant political worlds. As Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, under the guidance of Aldo Moro, from 1969 to 1974, he constantly interacted with Africa in the perspective of a partnership relationship, increasing the spaces of an Italian mediation role. In this phase he is the protagonist of important interventions in some areas of conflict, such as Biafra, where he obtains the release of Italian ENI technicians hostage to the secessionist army. The writings contained in the volume reproduce his figure of high political profile and great human sensitivity.
