Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The essay traces the process of professionalization of masters and teachers in Lombardy between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, focusing attention on the reality of Milan. In particular, in the age of the Restoration solid foundations were laid in this field. The reforms carried out in this period took root thanks to the work already carried out by the previous Teresio-Giuseppina and Napoleonic school policy. In the pre-unification years, in the Lombard cities, the secularization and the professionalization of the elementary faculty were completed and there was a qualitative increase in the efficiency of the elementary school, due to a significant didactic innovation.
