Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The issue of health and safety at work in our country has acquired, starting from the last decade of the last century, an increasing interest both at the level of public opinion and business. In general, the debate concerning the managerial and organizational dimensions of security has led to a series of reflections on the nature of the relationship between costs and the bene fi ts that an attentive approach to these dynamics can entail. At the corporate level the increased importance of the issue has stimulated a growing number of companies to develop increasingly structured management systems in order to arrive at adopting a proactive management approach capable of generating numerous tangible and intangible bene fi ts. This work, which focuses on one sector, that of environmental hygiene, considered particularly sensitive to occupational safety, aims to analyze the degree of application of specific managerial tools. In particular, after an initial classification of the topic, the results of a survey concerning the characteristics of the health and safety management system are shown and secondly the evidence, collected through a multiple case study, related to the testing of a card for measuring accident costs. The cutting of the research is useful both at the scienti fi c level and at the operational level, as it provides a series of empirical evidence and management guidelines capable of contributing both to the academic debate and to the operational dimension of the company.
