[Autom. eng. transl.] The crucial role of the support teacher, in terms of educational, social and ethical responsibility, is increasingly evident today. This is proven, on the one hand, by a growing need for initial and continuous training of the specialized teacher, on the other, by the reference to the primary function of the educational institution, today more than ever called upon to respond to the new and specific educational needs of the new generations. The reflections about the role and the competences of the support teacher find full foundation within these initial considerations. Profession always been the subject of debates, reflections and continuous revisions, at the mercy of political choices conditioned by the economic crisis, this educational figure has experienced a long path of social and legislative recognition, which has allowed the progressive acquisition of an identity and a conscience professional, which can be translated into increasingly complex and complex tasks and functions and which makes reflection on the subject of his training increasingly necessary.
