Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] This contribution introduces the collection of essays that make up the Proceedings of the III edition of the Summer School "Human mobility and global justice. The perspective adopted sees in citizenship not an ascribed or even innate attribute, as the nationalistic ideology claims, but something it is constructed politically and socially and has been defined, in the course of history, in different ways, none of which, however, manages to escape from that tension between universalism - of the contents and guarantees of subjective rights - and particularism - expressed by the belonging to a specific political group - which is at the heart of the institution itself of citizenship. Citizenship, at the same time, is not only granted by political and institutional means, but is built up in daily interaction, often starting from the "bottom", and often through the initiative of “excluded” subjects who, taking action for their emancipation, compete for defin a new idea of the common good. Finally, citizenship is not just a political question, but a cultural one, which expresses symbols, expectations and meanings, and which requires, especially in some historical situations, a precise action of education to citizenship.
