Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The book addresses the issues that private international law deals with and illustrates some of the rules that respond to these issues in Italy. It is divided into five parts. The first part traces the coordinates of the discipline, outlining its object and sources. The following parts are each dedicated to the major problems of the matter: the problem of jurisdiction, that of applicable law, that of the effectiveness of foreign decisions and that of cooperation between authorities of different states. The discussion of each problem is divided into two stages: first the discussion of the general aspects, then the analysis of a restricted selection of rules, such as the rules of Regulation (EU) no. 1215/2012 on jurisdiction and the effectiveness of decisions in civil and commercial matters (Brussels I bis), those of Regulation (EC) no. 593/2008 on the law applicable to contractual obligations (Rome I) and those of Regulation (EC) no. 864/2007 on the law applicable to non-contractual obligations (Rome II). Conceived as a tool for university teaching and as an aid for training and updating professionals, the book is devoid of doctrinal references. Some bibliographic indications, almost always limited to the literature that appeared in the last twenty years, are proposed at the bottom of each chapter, and - for manuals and other general works - at the end of the volume. An appendix reviews the main resources useful for finding regulatory texts, jurisprudence and doctrine.
