[Autom. eng. transl.] At the origin of the growing interest in sustainability lies the breakdown of the biological balance and the planetary ecosystem, profiling itself today as a social, economic and environmental challenge for the survival of future generations; cultural and educational challenge. Studying the richness of the environmental reality and thinking about life contexts as an educational place par excellence leads to overcoming the aporia of the concept of sustainable development, understood as mere economic "progress" and quantitative growth. According to a realistic and non-illusory or ideological vision, sustainability can configure a process that gives life, develops (indeed, supports) the human person as a whole, the territorial community in which he lives, the society in which he operates, the biophysical environment and that includes it. The thematic triad expressed in the subtitle, Pedagogy of the environment, human development, social responsibility, invites a renewed vision of the world and nature, in the sign of a new humanism.
