Abstract
This essay deals with some methodological problems about the use of iconographical documents as sources for the history of eighteen century theatre. Moreover a profile is drawn of theatre, celebrations and rites in Milan during Austrian Age. In this reading entertainment, both professional and popular (plays with animals, comedies with puppets, charlatans’ performances), and theatricalism forms are analyzed through iconographical and epistolary sources
