Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] "The medium is the message" and the idea of "global village" sound to us today as known slogans, which the spread of the internet and the globalization process make even more prophetic; but long before becoming a patrimony of the collective imagination, they are central passages of the articulated, and sometimes complex, reflection of Marshall McLuhan on the media - from the spoken word to the press, from the telegraph to the cinema to television. A reflection that McLuhan entrusted in 1969 to a long and famous chat with Playboy, one of the main cultural headlines of the time, proposed here for the first time individually and in a new translation. But right from the start the interview reveals itself as much more than a simple dialogue: it is a complete introduction to the key concepts of McLuhanian media theories; it is the sharp gaze of a great scholar - who indirectly responds to those who would like him as a "guru" of the new media - on the many influences that make up his approach. Above all, it is a shrewd comment, which still amazes for its lucidity, on many aspects of contemporary society.
