Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The essay examines the main features of the Italian production system and shows in particular how the strengthening of the competitiveness of companies is based, to a large extent, on their ability to innovate. It is then highlighted how the evaluation of a country's innovative capacity is a very complex issue both from a theoretical and an empirical point of view.
