Abstract

With regards to the relationship between sport injuries and psychosocial factors there is only limited scientific knowledge. Although the majority of studies have employed different methods, the results are in general agreement that “psychological characteristics” such as concentration, competitive anxiety, expression of anger, perceived life stress and “ social environment ” can influence the risk of injury in athletes. (Petrie TA and Perna F., 2004. The goal was to examine how much the two variables considered could influence the probability of injury in a personality profile typical of the injury –prone athlete. Moreover, it was hypothesized that a healthy social support system would aid in dealing with life stress and, therefore, decrease the rate of injury.
