Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Over the years, the life of Teresa Pla Meseguer, nicknamed "la Pastora", has turned into a real myth: woman and man, partisan and bandit, the ambiguity of the character and the scarce information related to her personal history have undoubtedly contributed to increasing its appeal even in the eyes of the modern reader. The novel by Alicia Giménez-Bartlett, Donde nadie te encuentre (published in Italy by Sellerio in 2011 with the title Where no one will find you), tries to shed light on the events of which the "Pastora" has been the protagonist, through the investigations of one French psychiatrist and a Spanish journalist who follow the paths already traveled by the bandit in order to understand the true nature of the character and the reasons for his choices. In the novel, the theme of escape is articulated in two directions: Teresa Pla Meseguer escapes from discrimination and harassment of a society incapable of accepting and accepting its diversity; at the same time, the psychiatrist and the journalist complete, albeit unintentionally, a progressive process of distancing themselves from the prevailing political and social ideals in Francoist Spain. The purpose of this work will be to re-read the novel in the light of these considerations, analyzing how in it the writer develops the theme of escape, understood as a total break, as a projection towards a new vital dimension to which all the characters seem to aspire.
