Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The Radd al-īamīl li-ilāhiyyat 'Īsà, or the "Beautiful refutation of the divine nature of Christ", is a polemical text centered on the refutation of the Christian doctrine of the divinity of Jesus. Despite it is traditionally attributed to Abū Ḥāmid al-Ġazālī (m 1111), we believe that he is not the author. However, this question is outside the present contribution, whose purpose is not to clarify the identity of the author, but to highlight the type of Muslim position with regard to Christianity that this treaty represents. In particular, the article deals with highlighting the author's attitude towards the Christian Scriptures and analyzing the reading he offers in the light of the chosen exegetical method and the evangelical passages cited. .
